Victory for Radiodetection at the International Locate Rodeo 2009

Radiodetection was a winner again at this year’s 8th Annual International Utility Locate Rodeo, an event that took place in Atlanta, GA on the 22nd – 25th July 2009. Being Diamond Sponsors of the event, Radiodetection is pleased to endorse the skill and expertise shown by Utility Locate Technicians as they carry out their day to day activities. “Many people aren’t aware of what an important job these technicians do” explains Peter Mann, Sales Director at Radiodetection. “It is thanks to them that our utilities are kept in the best possible condition, and damage is avoided by careful and expert use of locating equipment. Locate Rodeo is a chance for them to demonstrate their skills in a series of tough and challenging events.

”All utilities were represented and competitions were held for technicians in gas, power, telecom and water categories. Competitors compete in one category of their choice. Locators’ skills are put to the test at three different sites and the scores from all three event sites are used to determine the winner. Each locator is allowed twelve minutes per event site.Technicians using Radiodetection equipment swept the board in Telecom, took first place in Gas, and second and third in the Power division.

A bonus event, the Locate from Hell (LFH), is open to any competitor. The LFH differs from other divisions in several ways. First, there is only one event site and the competitor has only 3 minutes to complete the locates. The division is judged on accuracy but time is of the utmost importance as it is very easy for a competitor to “time out” on the event. Competitors are required to select from one of the participating rodeo equipment sponsors. Technicians using Radiodetection equipment took first and second place in the LFH event. Radiodetection sponsored all four divisions and the LFH event and extends its congratulations to all winners of the International Utility Locate Rodeo event.
